Amongst The Stones

Wandering through the crumbling stones
On a dark and rainy day
Nothing else around me
But neglect and decay
The paths are cracked and full of weeds
The grass is overgrown
But in this mess there’s beauty
A loveliness all of its own
Within its walls is silence
A place of perfect peace
Bones at rest beneath my feet
Their souls hopefully at ease
A perfect place to come and reflect
Upon life and all it brings
The good, the bad, happy and sad
And many other things
To walk amongst folk gone before
Makes you stop and think
About life and just how precious it is
And how it’s over in a blink.
